Inquiry Formation

Year of Inquiry · Initial Formation

Formation for Inquirers

The year of Inquiry is the period in which new members seek to discern whether they are, in fact, called to Dominican life. During this year, study is centred on what it means to be a Dominican, familiarity with Dominican history and saints, and the role of the Laity in the Church today.

The modules provided by the Province are recommended but not mandatory. Formators have freedom to substitute, supplement, or adjust the materials as needed, while being careful to cover all required topics during the appointed time frames.

Required Topics — Inquiry Phase

St. Dominic and his mission of preaching; the primitive Constitutions of the Order · Overview of the Four Pillars (prayer, study, community, apostolate) · Structure and government of the Order, Province, and local chapter · Familiarity with Dominican Saints: St. Catherine of Siena, St. Martin de Porres, St. Thomas Aquinas, St. Rose of Lima · Role of the Laity, especially as modelled by St. Catherine of Siena
