What do all families have in common when they gather together for special occasions?

They remember the stories of their past to keep their memories alive.  When we gather together for the 2014 Year of the Dominican Laity Congress in Dallas, TX, we will be doing exactly that . . .  we will celebrate the very best of our past to keep the memories of our Dominican ancestors alive through art, music, and liturgy.

WE LOOK FORWARD . . . 

The Dominican Order has fearlessly stepped forward into an unknown future since the founding of the Order in 1216.  Our success is due in part to our unique ability to embrace the milieu of our times to keep the means of our evangelization current and fresh for each succeeding generation.   When we gather together as one family of Preachers, we can learn from each other how best to be forward thinking in keeping the goals of our Holy Father Dominic as alive and vibrant as when he first set out our Constitutions.

As Dominicans, we can never be afraid to proclaim the Truth that is Jesus Christ.  Even as Dominican Laity, we are charged with the Preaching Mission—first always by the lived examples of our lives and then through our words when necessary.  Our purpose for the 2014 Year of the Dominican Laity Congress is to stir up the fire for the Preaching Mission—to enkindle in us the audacity to speak up and speak out the one Truth of our Lord, Jesus Christ!
